PIZZA DAY !!!
If you see Sarah VandenHeuvel today please wish her a Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday Sarah.
On February 2ed, Bellevue FFA competed in the District Leadership Contest. They competed against seven other schools including Olivet, CACC, Maple Valley, Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Hastings and Thorn/Kellogg. Kayla Roush competed in public speaking where she had to write and remember a 6-8 minute speech. She did amazing and received a silver placing. She finished 4th overall in her event. Kayla’s speech was about what American Farmers go through to provide the country with food, fiber and shelter. Lucas Harp also competed. He competed in extemporaneous speaking. This is where you get the topic and material at the contest and you have to come up with a 4-6 minute speech in a half hour. His topic was about data in rural areas. Lucas received a gold placing. He was 2ed out of 5 and will be moving on to regionals in two weeks. Congratulations to both students for doing an amazing job and good luck to Lucas at regionals.
This week's Culinary Crew Spotlight goes out to Diane Simons. Diane has been with Bellevue Community Schools since 1998. Her hard work and fun personality makes her a very valuable asset. We are very luck to have Diane on our team.
Out of 608 students K-12 there have been 9,829 recorded absences in Bellevue Community Schools this school year. These absences might be half a day missed in the morning or afternoon. It might be an hour missed at the secondary level. Some are full days of school. 9,829 is equal to every student having 16 recorded absences. A student is considered chronically absent if out of 180 days of school they miss 18 or more days. We just passed our 100th day of school recently.
I have been thinking about these facts all week, and my brain immediately has been jumping to solutions. Well, maybe if we just… do this. That would fix the problem. It took me a moment to take a breath and realize that how to improve attendance is the wrong question. First, we have to understand why.
The why is something we can only understand with your help.

Bellevue Community Schools has begun work improve our systems to support graduation. In conjunction with a liaison from the Michigan Department of Education and support from Calhoun ISD we have begun to look through present and historical data from the district to pinpoint areas of growth that will help us better serve our students and the community.
We hope to present our plans based on this data to the public on March 20 at 5:00 pm during the March Bronco Community Meeting in the Jr/Sr High library.

Nothing excels learning better then a delicious warm breakfast. Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuits were a big hit.
Today at Bellevue Community Schools we served our Chicken Bronco Bowls. Yum!!! It consists of mashed Potatoes, Corn, Gravy, and Popcorn Chicken. One of our Students Favorite Entrees.
Bellevue Community Schools is looking into additional ways to serve the community. We are exploring the possibility of offering before school care from 6:00- 7:45 am Monday through Friday at the Bellevue Elementary School starting in August. There would be a small cost for this service, and it would support four year olds through twelve year olds.
The survey is determining interest and if we have enough students each day to cover the operating cost of morning care.

The boys and girls basketball games for tomorrow have been canceled. The games are rescheduled for January 7th at 11:00am at St.Phil
Around 2:30 there was a fire alarm set off by a trash can fire in the boys restroom. Staff were able to put the fire out without any other issues. Fire and first responders were on scene and cleared the high school to be back in the building. No one was hurt and we are investigating the situation.
This week we saw a rise in illness in the District. I encourage families to keep students home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness. Students should remain out until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours. This will help prevent the spread of illness to others.
Additionally, please talk with your student and remind them to wash their hands regularly and cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when coughing or sneezing.
By following these steps, we can all do our part to keep our community healthy and safe.
